In this challenge, people are encouraged to share photos of littered areas before and after cleaning them up on social networking sites.

The #trashtag challenge began gaining popularity on 5 March after a Facebook user shared a before-and-after photo of a messy area that had been cleaned in an unknown location. The post grabbed attention with more than 330,000 shares on Facebook.

Since then, thousands of people all over the world have posted photos and videos on social networking sites, showing themselves cleaning up rubbish in public areas, and young Da Nang people do not want to stay away from this global trend.

Over recent days, young people across the city have become actively involved in cleaning up public areas, and posting dozens of photos of these cleaned areas on their Facebook pages.

Recently, Mr Nguyen Huu Duc (Facebook Nguyen Huu Duc) has shared amazing photos on the Facebook page of the city’s Urban Management Division about Tran Quoc, Bich Tram and Le Vinh who were involved in bagging trash and collecting litter.

Accordingly, these young people rode 85km on mountain road to clean up 2 rubbish dumps on the top of the Kien slope which is located near the geographical boundary between Da Nang’s Hoa Phu Commune and Quang Nam Province’s Ba Commune.

The 1st rubbish dump was located directly below the steep slope, so they had to use a rope to tie up, and climb down to clear the garbage.

Meanwhile, despite being located in a fairly flat area, the 2nd dump was very dirty. Therefore, they had to use 20 large bags to collect garbage.

Applauding Da Nang’s young people who have engaged in the meaningful action, the owner of a Facebook account Thu Hong commented “Thank you all for making the environment more clean and green”.

Another Facebook account Tran Minh Khanh said that people should throw litter properly in a trash bin.

Mr Duc said the posting of these photos bagging trash on the Facebook page of the city’s Urban Management Division aimed to encourage even more young people across the city to make greater effort to build Da Nang a green, clear and beautiful city.

Like a wise, the ‘I love Da Nang’ Facebook page recently shared an article about Huynh Ba Luc and his cousin Le Van Thi from Hoa Vang District who cleaned up rubbish on the Son Tra Peninsula as part of the global viral #trashtag challenge.

In the afternoon of 13 March, they collected more than a dozen of trash bags on the peninsula.

Previously, 9x guy Luc had already cleared garbage, including plastic dishes and bottles, beer bottles and foam boxes, at the Tho Quang fishing wharf.
