In recent years, Da Nang has optimised urban management through its Facebook pages and hotlines. These public channels have played an important role in helping the city deal with pressing problems reported by residents quickly, and making Da Nang a green, clean, and beautiful city.

In 2013, the Facebook page of the city’s Urban Management Division at https://www.facebook.com/groups/dothidanang/?fref=ts was created to receive and address any pressing problems reported by local residents.

To date, the page has had a total of more than 80,000 members, including over 60,000 people living and working in the city. It has become a forum where they can post their reports on any pressing problems relating to landscape, environment, people, mechanisms, and policies.

According to Mr Nguyen Van Duy from the municipal People’s Committee Office who founded the Facebook page of the city’s Urban Management Division, this Facebook page faciliates people to write, take pictures, and shoot videos about pressing problems in order to help the local authorities quickly discover problems occuring in the city, and find the fastest way to resolve them.

“After 5 years of being launched, the public page has become very popular amongst local residents. The higher number of the page members, the more remarkably the community's awareness was raised”, Mr Duy added.

Mr Duy noted thanks to this facebook page, the local authorities can follow information about the city wherever they are, regardless of trips outside the city. It also helps residents see how officials are working on reported issues, motivating them to work harder.

Officially put into use in April 2016, the Da Nang Public Service Portal with its hotline 0236 1022 has operated effectively, and it has won the trust and high praise from both local residents and visitors.

The hotline aims to offer an opportunity for locals and visitors to have their questions about all aspects answered by the city authorities, even in the English language.

This useful service provides such information as the city’s administrative procedures, its regulations and policies, any natural disaster forecasts, and about the local economy, culture, and tourism.

In addition, opinions and feedback contributed by locals are always welcomed through this channel.

Callers can present any problems or their complaints relating to social security, traffic safety, environmental pollution, and other matters of deep concern in the city.

Likewise, the Da Nang Department of Transport opened its own official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/sgtvtdn/?fref=nf in early 2017.

The opening of the page aims to enhance their administrative reforms by enabling complaints from local residents and visitors about transport-related issues to be received and dealt with speedily.

Local citizens can interact by posting updates on the situation in their neighbourhood, photos, and videos capturing traffic violations or accidents, and reports on the shortcomings of any officers or the city’s traffic system.

Opinions from local citizens and visitors posted on the Facebook page will usually be responded to by members of the page’s management group, whilst more complicated matters will be reported to the leaders of the Department and the municipal authorities.
