In response to this year’s youth month themed ‘Young people do volunteer work for their community’ launched by the National Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist YU, the YU organisation of the municipal Government Agency Block has already implemented a ‘Volunteer Footprints’ programme in Tra Giac Commune, Bac Tra My District, Quang Nam Province.

Accordingly, over 100 volunteer doctors have given free medicines and examinations to over 500 local poor people.

Mr Nguyen The Doan, the Secretary of the Village No 4 Party Cell in Tra Giac Commune, said around 90% of the commune’s population are Ca Dong ethnic people, whilst the remainder are Cotu, Ko, Tay and Muong people. He, therefore, said that, local residents found it very difficult to access healthcare services in their locality.

Meanwhile, another group of youth union members have taken part in painting the Tran Cao Van Primary School No 3 in the commune’s Village No 5, replacing damaged cell fans and bulbs with new ones, and repairing downgraded classrooms.

Music teacher Tran Duc Manh from this rural school could not hide his emotions at the enthusiasm and dynamism of the young volunteers.

He expressed his hope that more volunteer groups would visit and help poor local residents in the coming time.

Ms Pham Thi Hong Linh, Secretary of the YU organisation of the municipal Government Agency, said this is the 3rd consecutive year that the ‘Volunteer Footprints’ programme has been organised in the city.

She added during this year numerous meaningful activities would be held across the city. Included are ‘March, borders and islands’ programme, and donating gifts to children of naval officers and men of Naval Zone 3 who are living in difficult circumstances.
