Emergency assistance for fishermen in distress at sea
At 1.22 pm on 26 April, the Viet Nam Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Viet Nam MRCC) received an SOS message from crew members onboard fishing boat QNg 92723 TS from Quang Ngai Province.
Accordingly, 19-year-old fisherman Truong Cong Hung was reported that he suffered head injuries. The victim was in a very critical condition with severe blood loss, and he was unconscious.
At that time, the vessel was fishing in the waters at about 205 nautical miles east of the Quy Nhon City.
After receiving the SOS message, Viet Nam MRCC immediately helped the boat’s crew members to contact doctors from the city’s Emergency Centre 115 to ask for first aid instructions.
In addition, the Viet Nam MRCC asked the Da Nang MRCC to send out its rescue ship SAR 412, carrying doctors from the city’s Emergency Centre 115, to help the sick fisherman.
At 3.00pm on that day, SAR 412 headed straight in a quickly fashion to the sea in a bid to bring the victim to the mainland safely.
Earlier, in the morning of 25 April, crew members onboard fishing boat DNa 91087 TS from Da Nang’s Son Tra District made an appeal for emergency help to the Viet Nam MRCC.
Owned by Mrs Pham Thi Thu from the district’s Nai Hien Dong Ward, the fishing boat suffered engine failure whilst it was fishing about 53 nautical miles northeast of the Lang Co Bay in Thua Thien Hue Province.
However, all 7 crew members onboard were unable to solve the problem, and their boat was adrift.
Unfortunately, the food and drinking water onboard were about to run out, and the communication devices were broken.
After receiving an SOS message from the fishermen, the Viet Nam MRCC immediately asked fishing boats operating nearby to help the boat in distress.
