At 8.00pm on 20 April, fishing boat QNg 55521 from Quang Ngai Province’s Binh Son District, with 3 crew members onboard, unexpectedly suffered engine failure whilst fishing at latitude 15°33N and longitude 108°58’E near the province’s Ly Son Island.
The fishing boat was captained by 58-year-old Nguyen Van Truyen, a native of the province.
Unfortunately, the boat’s crew members were unable to make repairs, and their boat was adrift.
At noon on 23 April, the vessel drifted out to sea, about 4 nautical miles southeast of the Hon Cho waters.
At that time, the fishermen were able to contact the Border Control Station CT15 of the Son Tra District Border Gate Guard Station in Da Nang.
Shortly after, the border guard forces used fishing boat DNa 3979 owned by 31-year-old Le Van Dong from Da Nang to save the victims.
After arriving at the scene, the border guard forces provided the victims with food, water and medical check-ups, as well as helped them repair their boat.
At 2.30pm on 23 April, all crew members arrived safely back to the mainland.
