2.5 billion VND donated for humanitarian addresses
On Thursday morning, the Da Nang Red Cross Society officially launched the 2019 Month for Humanitarian Activities themed ‘Connecting, Sharing, and Spreading’ in the build up to the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2019 (8 May).
Accordingly, between 1 and 31 May, the Society and its chapters across the city will raise donations from generous philanthropists to help at least 2,000 people in difficult circumstances, including 1,000 humanitarian addresses.
Also, the focus will be on building 4 houses for poor families, providing free medical check-ups and medicines for 1,100 poor people, and collecting 3,000 units of blood.
The importance will be attached to encouraging people to register for donating organs and tissues to help people in need, and their bodies for science, as well as organising training courses on disaster response for the community.
In his remarks at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Trung Chinh appealed for all residents to join forces with the authorities to help the needy.
Also at the event, Vice Chairman Chinh handed over the decision by the municipal People's Committee on the establishment of the Red Cross Operation Fund which will be under the management of the city’s Red Cross Society.
The Society will use this fund to help people in needed in accordance with current financial principles.
On the occasion, Mr Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Deputy Director of the National Coordination Centre for Organ Transplantation, gave the centre’s organ donor cards to 30 registrants in the city, including Chairwoman of the Da Nang Red Cross Society Le Thi Nhu Hong.
Also at the ceremony, 21 organisations, individuals and businesses across the city registered to donate 2.5 billion VND in total to help those in need.
