Humanitarian month launched nationwide
The 2019 Month for Humanitarian Activities themed ‘Connecting, Sharing, and Spreading’ is taking place in provinces and cities nationwide from 1 - 31 May, with peak dates between 8 May (World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2019) and 19 May (birthday of late President Ho Chi Minh, the first Honourary President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society).
The municipal Red Cross Society started the construction of a house for a poor family in 2018 from the fund raised from the Da Nang Power Company. |
This programme aims to further deepen and spread positive values and traditions of humanity amongst Vietnamese people, as well as to promote responsibility of local authorities, party committees and social organisations in the humanitarian work.
Ms Le Thi Nhu Hong, Chairwoman of the Da Nang Red Cross Society, remarked her organisation and its chapters across the city have set targets of helping at least 2,000 people in difficult circumstances, including 1,000 humanitarian addresses.
“The month focuses on activities to build houses, provide free medical check-ups and medicines, and means of livelihood, for poor people, and blood donation” she added.
