Urgent measures taken to prevent ASF spread to the city
As of 27 May, outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) had been detected in 15 villages and residential areas across Quang Nam Province. As a result, a total of 180 infected pigs raised in 35 families had been destroyed.
After an ASF outbreak was found in Viem Minh residential group in Dien Ban Town’s Dien Ngoc Ward on 25 May, local functional bodies destroyed 51 infected pigs in total.
Mr Cao Xuan Thai, the Head of the Da Nang Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, reaffirmed no case of ASF has been reported in Da Nang to date, but the city is on high alert against this epidemic.
He noted his agency has regularly informed local residents about the current situation of ASF, as well as has taken timely measures to prevent the spread of ASF into the city.
On 27 May, the Da Nang Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary supplied 4.4 litres of Benkocid chemicals to pig breeders across the city in order to help them take proactive measures to prevent ASF infection.
In addition, local pig breeders have been asked to clean and disinfect their pig farms daily instead of weekly.
Mr Nguyen Tu, the Deputy Head of the city's Food Safety Management Board affirmed, functional bodies have been making every effort to tighten monitoring of pig farms, slaughtering facilities, markets, supermarkets, and trading areas of pigs and pork products in a bid to ensure safe pork supply in the city despite increased risks of ASF transmission.
