Efforts to build environmentally-friendly and ecological city
A ceremony took place in Da Nang on Wednesday to review the implementation of a project on building Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly city during the 2008-2018 period.

Over the past decade, the city has received many national and international awards and certificates in recognition of its active involvement in urban management, environmental protection, and climate change adaption.
During that period, the city has scored 7 out of the 10 indicators about environment.
In detail, the city has seen the air pollution index (API) of less than 100, as well as the noise index of less than 60dB (A) in high-density residential areas and that of less than 75dB (A) on streets.
The index of the per capita green space has been between 6 and 8m2.
As for water quality criterion, 97.83% of the total families in urban areas have accessed clean water, whilst 76,81% of the families in rural areas have accessed clean water.
100% of the city’s industrial parks and high-tech park have had their own dedicated wastewater treatment systems, and their discharged wastewater has met the national standards.
The solid waste collection rates in urban and rural areas have reached 95% and 70% respectively.
The domestic wastewater collection and treatment rates have stood at 61% and 42% respectively.
The 3 indexes have yet to reach their targets set by 2020 and they are the rates of air pollution control plants, the water quality meeting the national standards for rivers, coastal areas, lakes and underground water, and the recycling of industrial solid waste.

In the coming time, the Department will join forces with relevant local agencies to implement the 'Building Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly City’ project during the 2020-2030 period, with a vision towards 2045.
The focus will be on controlling the environmental pollution by 2025, setting up the environmental management systems, and striving to meet the criteria for ecological cities by 2030, as well as developing Da Nang into an ecological city meeting the regional and international criteria for ecological city by 2045.
In his closing remarks at the event, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho underscored the significance of building a policy system and environmental protection law to realise the city’s goal of becoming an environmentally-friendly city.
Importance should be attached to appealing for the efficient public use of natural resources, as well as applying high-tech solutions into the garbage classification at the source, the reduction of disposable plastic waste, and the saving of water and electricity.
Also at the event, 23 groups and 11 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee in recognition of their outstanding achievements in implementing the project over the past 10 years.
