Blind man Vo Van Nhat, 24, from Ngu Hanh Son District is a typical example.

As Nhat was 2 years old, his eyes became blind due to retinitis and ocular lesions. Although Nhat was brought to many large hospitals nationwide for treatment, the result was not satisfactory. As a result, he has completely gone blind since he was 5.

Despite his disability, Nhat has nurtured his strong passion for studying. In 2001, he studied at the city's Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School for Disabled Children.

Thanks to his strong determination and great endeavour, Nhat has begun to attend high school classes with non-disabled pupils when he was a sixth grader.

He was recognised as a good pupil during 3 years of senior high school. Notably, he took third prizes at the municipal-level contests for excellent pupils for Chemistry as he was in grades 11 and 12.

In 2013, Nhat passed the entrance exams to two universities, and he then decided to study at the Da Nang University of Economics. During 4 years of university, Nhat gained good academic results. In addition, he became actively involved in playing the organ, piano, guitar, Chinese chess, and football.

Besides, Nhat showed his interest in information technology. With supporting software, he has been proficient in many computing programmes, thereby searching information on the Internet to practice organ.

In addition to notable awards at sports competitions for the disabled at district and municipal levels, Nhat has won many medals for outstanding organ soloist at the ‘Singing from Heart’ Contest at municipal and national levels.

After graduating from the University with good result, Nhat has become a music teacher at the Huong Duong Viet Centre for Disabled Children in Quang Nam Province’s Tam Ky City.

At the same time, he has opened an organ class at home and taught the organ on Yotube at http://bitly/nhatorgan. His classes have attracted the participation of over 200 people in total.

Especially, Nhat has recently assisted blind people to use computers and smart phones, bringing great benefits to people in the same situation.

Chairman of the municipal Association of Blind People Vo Van Ngo remarked Nhat is a typical example amongst visually impaired people in the city who has always overcome his difficult circumstances to bring great benefits to the blind community.

Another example is 45-year-old Tran Xuan Bach residing in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward.

As a 3-month baby, Bach was struck with a sever polio fever which left him have a muscle atrophy in his left leg. After 6 years of medical treatment, Bach could go limp.

However, time was not kind to Bach as an unexpected bomb accident badly damaged his right hand. Since then, his academic dream has been closed.

Despite his difficulties, Bach was determined to attend a vocational training programme at the Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village.

With only one left, Bach was proficient in carving images onto stones. In addition, he has made his efforts to learn about oil painting methods on stones.

His products have won trust from customers from both home and abroad.

Most of people at the Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village love this handicapped, skillful and energetic guy. Amongst them is Ms Vo Thi Son who finally becomes Bach’s other half.

Thanks to his active involvement in social work, Bach was appointed Chairman of the Ngu Hanh Son District Association of Disabled People in 2014.

“With his enthusiasm and dedication, Bach has brought great benefits to the disabled, thereby helping the district complete its poverty reduction target. He deserved as a typical individual about studying and following president Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style”, Chairman of the district’s Fatherland Front Committee Huynh Cu said.
