At 6.00pm on Wednesday, 46 year-old Philippine crew member Alcarez Peter II Alesna was reported to suffer from severe chest and spine injuries. Besides, he had breathing difficulties and his right hand crushed. Meanwhile, his ship was unable to provide medical treatment for the patient.

At that time his Liberian vessel BULK JAPAN which was en route from China to Singapore was passing through the Da Nang waters at latitude 16°11’N and longitude 109°27’E.

After receiving an SOS message, the Viet Nam Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Viet Nam MRCC) asked the ship to move towards the Da Nang coast.

According to the initial diagnosis, the victim was in a critical condition.

Soon after, the Viet Nam MRCC asked the Da Nang MRCC to send out its rescue ship SAR 274, carrying doctors from the Emergency Centre 115, to help the foreign victim.

At 9.50pm on the same day, SAR 274 reached the foreign ship, and the patient was, then, transferred to the rescue ship for first aid. After that, the Philippine sick crew member was quickly brought back to the mainland for further treatment at a local hospital.
