Vegetation fire breaks out on Son Tra Peninsula

Around 5,000m2 of vegetation were destroyed as fire broke out at 7.52pm on Monday at taluses on the road leading to the Bai Bac (Northern Beach) tourist site on Da Nang’s Son Tra Peninsula.

The firefighters found it very difficult to access the burning area because the fire occurred in the dark night and in the taluses close to the edge of the sea.

After receiving SOS message from local residents, the 114 Fire Prevention and Fighting Centre of the municipal Department of Police immediately sent a total of over 100 firefighters and 8 fire engines from the Fire Fighting and Prevention divisions in Son Tra, Hai Chau and Thanh Khe districts to the scene.

In addition, dozens of officers and men from the Military Command and Border Guard Station of Son Tra District were mobilised to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading.

Thanks to the great efforts of the participants, the blaze was finally extinguished after 2 more hours.

However, the firefighters found it very difficult to access the burning area due to its difficult terrain combined with strong winds, and the hot and dry conditions.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
