Warning over dangers of high UV levels during heatwaves
The heatwave is hitting Da Nang and elsewhere in the mid-central region and the persistently hot weather is likely to continue into the next few days, according to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
Today, 14 June, mid-central regional localities are bracing for the average temperatures of between 35 and 38 degree Celsius in the daytime, and above 35 degree Celsius especially from 10.00am until 5.00pm.
Also on the same day, the UV levels in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City are reaching between 8 and 10, a dangerous level that can cause eye damage, overheating and dehydration to those who are exposed to direct sunlight during the hot weather.
The local health experts warned of the dangers of scorching temperatures and high UV levels, urging the Da Nang people to use sun protective measures when out and about.
As the hot spell will be exacerbated by low humidity, the Da Nang authorities also warned of fire and explosion hazards, as well as a high risk of forest fire.
Specially, people can be vulnerable to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke as they are exposed to high temperatures for a long time.
