Intensified heatwave bakes the city into next days
A heatwave is expected to gradually intensify across the mid-central region, including Da Nang, into the next days due to the effects of the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region, the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has warned.
In Da Nang, readings are predicted to be as high as 36-38 degrees Celsius in the daytime. Mercury can remain above 35 degree Celsius in some parts of the city, especially from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Meanwhile, the lowest humidity is reported as between 35 and 40%
Noticeably, the choking heat is prompting the risk of forest fires in midlands and mountainous areas, fire and explosion hazardsin residential areas due to electric energy consumption, and the probable outbreaks of epidemics sparked by blasts of hot air.
Under the effect of the hot weather, thunderstorms, lighting and strong winds are possible in mountainous areas in the nighttime.
