In Binh Phuoc No 1 residential area, Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang, there is a group of shool kids who volunteer to collect domestic wastes from local families, and to sort them at source on weekends. Notably, the volunteer group consists of a total of 14 schoolgirls and boys aged only 6 - 12.

Despite scorching heat during the summer, along with the hard and dirt toils facing them, these kids are usually seen pushing 3 garbage carts to all families living in the residential area for the collection of newspapers, beer cans, plastic bottles, and kinds of domestic trash.

All the collected waste will be sold to raise funds for charity activities.

Also encouragingly, the good deed done by the volunteer litter pickers, indeed, conveys a good message about environmental protection, and receives a high praise from the public, hereby together protecting the green, clean, beautiful environment in the city.

Ms Nguyen Ly, who lives in the Binh Phuoc No 1 residential area, highly applauded, “The kids are fully aware of environmental protection. Look at what these children do for the sake of the community, regardless of hardship, why don’t adults follow them. Each person should not litter and keep the environment clean”.

During 5 performance nights of the freshly-concluded Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2019, the kids also volunteered their time to join forces with sanitary workers to collect litter along busy streets near the view stands.

It is known that the amount of money collected by the team from the sale of collected waste has reached up to 17 million VND, which is a well-done task fulfiled by the praiseworthy children.

The collected money will go to help studious pupils with difficult circumstances pursue their academic dreams, and organise meaningful activities for children living in the residential area.

Highly appreciating the good deed made by these kids, the Thuan Phuoc Ward People's Committee presented uniforms and a new garbage cart to them. In addition, this meaningful model will be expanded into other residential areas in the ward.
