Severe heat bakes the city in days to come
The scorching heat is expected to be prolonged into the next days across the mid-central region, including Da Nang, due to the effects of the influence of the developed southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region, the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has warned.
In some central regional localities, the average highs of between 35 to 38 degrees Celsius are forecast in the daytime, with some of their parts experiencing over 38 degrees Celsius.
In Da Nang, in the coming days, readings are predicted to be as high as 37 degrees Celsius in the daytime, and above 35 degree Celsius reported from from 11.00am until 5.00pm.
Today, the ultraviolet (UV) radiation index in the city can hover from medium to high-risk levels. Exposure to extreme UV rays could cause both immediate harm (burned skin) and long-term effects (cancer or aging skin).
Under the effect of the unbearable heat, central regional localities are on high alert against the risk of forest fires in midlands and mountainous areas, fire and explosion hazardsin residential areas due to electric energy consumption, and the probable outbreaks of epidemics sparked by blasts of hot air.
