Boasting favourable geographical position with stunning coastline, beautiful beaches and famous tourist attractions, Son Tra District has been always crowded with tourists. As a result, the harassment of tourists, and the illegal encroachment of trading activities onto the local streets’ pavements, have occurred more often. Therefore, the district authorities have made ceaseless efforts to deal with the matters.

According to a statistics released by the district’s Urban Rule Inspection Team, as of late July, a total of 46 illegal street vendors and tourist harassment cases were reminded about the city’s regulations.

In the first half of this year, fines of 9.9 million VND in total were imposed on 53 illegal street vendors across the city. Also, 163 tourist harassment cases, street vendors and itinerant beggars were reminded about complying with the local regulations and they were also asked to sign a commitment that they will not repeat their violations.

Deputy Director of the municipal Tourism Department Nguyen Xuan Binh remarked Da Nang has issued a code of conduct applicable to the tourist industry. He, therefore, asked relevant local agencies to widely publicise the code amongst individuals and organisations working in the city’s tourism sector; local residents; and domestic and international tourists.

In the coming time, more surveillance cameras will be installed, as well as members of urban rule inspection teams will be assigned on duty, at crowded streets and tourist sites in order to detect and deal with tourist harassment cases, street vendors and itinerant beggars.

Besides, local police officers will increase their patrols at the city’s popular tourist attractions to prevent theft, pickpocketing and robbery cases.

In addition, the ‘Da Nang Smile’ campaign is now progressing well across the city in an effort to make Da Nang a civilised, friendly and hospitable city for visitors from both home and abroad.
