Mr Ho Huong, General Director of the Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO), said on Monday that the salinity level of the Cau Do (Red Bridge) River reached 1,800mg/l, which resulted in an increased risk of water shortages across the city.

On 24 and 25 August, DAWACO supplied a total of 630,000m3 of tap water to the city’s residents. However, hydropower reservoirs reduced the water discharge capacity during that period. Therefore, the water level of the Vu Gia River went down, and the salinity level of the Cau Do (Red Bridge) River reached over 700 mg/l.

As a result, the company had to operate the An Trach Pumping Station at full capacity of 210,000m3 per day, and use a part of water source storaged in recent days, to provide tap water for local residents.

Since 26 August, many residents in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts have taken the initiative to drill wells to get underground water, or buy water tanks to store fresh water.
