Temporary anti-saline intrusion dam to be built within 4 days
Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung on Wednesday officially approved the construction of an about 200m - wide temporary anti-saline intrusion dam near the Nguyen Tri Phuong Bridge which crosses the Cam Le River.
Funded by the Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO), the soon-to-start project, about several kilometers from the downstream section of the Cau Do Bridge, aims to prevent the Cau Do River from saline intrusion, hereby ensuring enough water source to the namesake water plant.
DAWACO will be in charge of preparing necessary construction materials and equipment to start the work as soon as possible, and especially completing the project within 4 days since its commencement date.
Also, it is necessary to prepare a plan to immediately dismantle the temporary dam in case of flood warnings.
According to DAWACO, from Wednesday night till Thursday dawn, gate valves on main water lines in the districts of Hai Chau and Thanh Khe were fully closed in order to raise water supplies to the districts of Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son.
Since 27 August, thanks to heavy rains pouring onto the downstream areas of the Vu Gia River, a large amount of water has pushed salinity out of the Cau Do River, from which DAWACO has sourced water for tap water supplies to the city’s residents.
It was reported that, on 27 and 28 August, the company supplied a total of 301,000 m3 of water for the whole city.
