On 28 September, 28-year-old Ngo Dinh Q. from Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Phu District rode a scooter with the registration plate 74D-166.54 with his friend 24-year-old Tran Tai L. on the back to Da Nang’s Son Tra Peninsula.

In the late afternoon of the same day, Mr Q lost control of his scooter while riding downhill to the centre of Da Nang.

The road accident occurred at about 2km from the Ban Co (Chessboard) Peak on the peninsula. As a result, the scooter rider Q. died on the spot, whilst his friend was seriously injured and was then rushed to hospital for treatment.

After receiving an SOS message about the road accident, police officers from Tho Quang Ward and Son Tra District were immediately present at the scene to investigate the cause of the incident.

So far this year, many fatal accidents have been reported on the Son Tra Peninsula.

In order to reduce the number of traffic accidents there, numerous road signs have been installed at several spots to warn people about dangerous stretches on the roads leading to the peninsula, especially banning visitors from riding scooters to this site in order to avoid unexpected accidents. Besides, speed humps and convex mirrors have been placed to minimise incidents.
