In recent days, many big potholes have appeared at this intersection, leaving rainwater-filled holes, especially along an approach section to the Expressway, which causes difficulties and annoyance for road users and a high risk of crashes here.

It is worth noting that, since the start of 2018, a total of 4 traffic accidents that left 3 dead and 1 injured have been occurred at this hotspot.

The municipal Traffic Safety Board also proposed that the national government agencies direct functional bodies to put into operation a new road connecting Truong Son Street with the Nam Hai Van - Tuy Loan bypass in order to reduce traffic pressure at the damaged intersection.

According to the Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC), the investor of the Expressway, heavy rain which poured down onto the intersection from 18 to 20 September left 3 large potholes, with each measuring 0.3 - 0.8m in width and 7 - 12cm in depth, at the existing temporary section leading to the Expressway.

To date, the discovered potholes at the intersection have been patched with cold asphalt concrete, and vehicles have circulated normally here.

VEC explained that, following approval by the Ministry of Transport in April 2017, the temporary section leading to the Expressway was built and put into use in August 2017 as a cost-saving economical measure pending the soon-to-start construction of the 2nd stage of the intersection upgrade.
