The Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital has received the recognition of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, and the Alive and Thirve organisation - a global nutrition initiative to save lives, prevent illness, and ensure healthy growth of mothers and children, for its great efforts in following essential newborn care procedures among mothers and children, and supporting breastfeeding.

The recognition for the hospital as the Centre of Excellence for Breastfeeding was announced at a ceremony on Thurday at the hospital which was attended by Mr Nguyen Duc Vinh, Director of the Maternal and Child Health Department of the Ministry of Health .

In his remarks at the event, Mr Vinh said that 90% of mothers exclusively breastfeed their babies during their hospital stay at the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital. This positive result was mainly attributed to the hospital’s great efforts in ensuring skin-to-skin contact between the mother and child for the first 90 minutes after birth.
