In addition to his enthusiastic appeals for blood donations from the general public for treatment and emergency cases, Tran Phuoc Hung, the Head of the Da Nang-based ‘Understanding and Love’ blood donation club, has encouraged others to participate in a series of his charity programmes.

Doing charity work is highly applauded, and this is more meaningful as conducted in a far-flung mountain village with no running water and limited access to the outside world. Regardless of difficulties, Hung has taken up such a challenge because “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”.

Currently, the kind-hearted man is racing again time to carry out a water supply project which benefits households residing in mountainous Tu Gia Village, Tra Tap Commune, Nam Tra My District, neighbouring Quang Nam Province.

Thanks to his great determination and efforts, after a short time of calling on the public involvement via his personal Facebook page, Hung collected a total of 75 million VND, of which 64.4 million VND came from the Asian Joining Hands organisation.

The collected money is used to build 2 water reservoirs, each having a capacity of 5.61m3, in a tandem with the construction of an overflow-type spillway and the installation of more than 2 km of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) water pipes connecting to these reservoirs in order to provide water for 45 households and the Tu Gia school located in the namesake village.

Work started on this extremely useful project on 2 October, and is expected to be completed on 20 October.

Hung said during his recent charity trip to the Tu Gia village on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Fest, he realised that villagers were facing a serious shortage of clean water, which made their daily lives more difficult. This fact, indeed, inspired him to encourage others to join hands with him for the implementation of the water supply project.

The village is far away from the Nam Tra My District’s centre, and roads leading to this mountainous location are very dangerous. Therefore, it is difficult to transport construction materials and prepare meals for construction workers involved in the project.

Every day, Hung takes a more than 175 km motorbike ride from Da Nang to Tu Gia to supervise the construction work. Thanks to the great efforts of the participants, the construction of the reservoirs’ foundations has been completed, whilst other remaining work items are progressing well on track.

“Once completed, these 2 reservoirs will serve as village wells used in the past. People can use water for cooking, bathing, washing clothes and other daily activities. With a large volume of water, these tanks will satisfy the real demand of the villagers, hereby helping them no longer suffer from a serious shortage of clean water”, said Hung.
