Municipal-level drill on nuclear and radiation emergency response

On Thursday morning, a rehearsal on nuclear and radiation emergency response took place at the Da Nang International Exhibition Fair Centre, 9 Cach Mang Thang Tam.
The event was jointly organised by the municipal Department of Science and Technology and the municipal Steering Board on Nuclear and Radiation Emergency Response.
It drew the participation of representatives from the municipal Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Police, the Department of Health, and the Military High Command.
This is the 4th time Da Nang has held the municipal-level drill on responding to radiation and nuclear accidents.
In a hypothetical situation, some evildoers stole a radioactive source in an industrial measurement device of the Tan Long Paper and Packaging Company located in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park in the city’s Lien Chieu District. The stealers then stored the radioactive source at their home and waited for good opportunity to sell. |

The intention of the rehearsal was to evaluate the appropriateness of incident response plan, and the transmission of information and the cooperation amongst participating organisations and units. Also, the drill helped to assess the ability of responding to the incident based on existing human resources and equipment. |
