The event was jointly organised by the Viet Nam Women’s Union, the National Traffic Safety Committee, Viet Nam’s Association for Responsible Drinking (VARD), the Asia Pacific International Wine and Spirits Alliance (APIWSA), along with the municipal Women’s Union.
The Responsible Drinking campaign has been implemented effectively in 5 Vietnamese localities, namely Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Dak Lak, and Binh Phuoc. These localities have set up 15 special clubs operating for responsible drinking, opened 30 training classes and organised stage performing programmes with the aim of raising the public awareness of responsible drinking.
On the spotlight at the event were discussions on the deadly consequences of drunk-driving, women’s responsibilities in ensuring traffic safety and ideas to appeal for more public involvement in combating drunk-driving.
In particular, Miss Viet Nam 2010 Ngoc Han, the image representative of the Responsible Drinking campaign, participated in ‘ao dai’ (Vietnamese traditional long dress) fashion show which conveyed a message about women’s important voice for responsible drinking.
