According to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, this morning, the tropical depression’s centre was located over the Central Highlands, with winds of 40 - 50 kph (level 6), and it would then continue downgrading to low- depression system in neighbouring Cambodia.
Today, winds levels 4 – 5, with a gust of level 6 are raging in the mainland of Da Nang and Quang Nam, whilst winds levels 5 -6, with a squall of level 7 are seen in Quang Ngai Province. Heavy rough sea, 2.5 -3.5 high waves, wind level 7 are forecast off the coast of these central localities.
Under the influence of ongoing intensifying cold front and inter-tropical convergence zone connected to the tropical depression and its circulation, Da Nang and Quang Nam are now bracing for widespread heavy downpours, with the largest rainfall recorded on today.
The forecasters said that Da Nang could see cloudy and wet weather in the coming days. The temperatures are expected to hover at between 22 to 28 degrees Celsius, and the average humidity of 85%.
Of special note, mountainous areas in the districts of Hoa Vang and Lien Chieu are highly predicted to see a high risk of flash floods, with landslides occurring on steep slopes and river banks, and flooding in low-lying and urban areas.
In order to cope with the impacts of the tropical depression, the Da Nang Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Mitigation, and Control and Search and Rescue has banned fishing vessels form heading out to sea. Currently, no Da Nang-sourced boats operate in dangerous waters.
