The municipal authorities gave a nod for the implementation of the north-west traffic axis No 1, plus some public investment projects, in Lien Chieu District in late 2014.

Mr Phan Van Dai, Chairman of the Hoa Khanh Bac Ward People’s Committee in Lien Chieu District, highlighted the significance of the project in reducing the number of vehicles travelling on main roads in his ward, as well as in shortening the travel distance between the Hue T-junction and an approach road to the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park.

Also, he emphasised that the project would help the city expand its urban space into the northwest side, and shorten the travel distance from the city centre to residential areas in the northwest side of the city.

Head of the district’s Site Clearance Board Nguyen Dang Ra said under the north-west traffic axis No 1 project, a total of 135 families in the district’s Hoa Minh Ward will be displaced by the project. To date, 113 affected families have been moved out of the site but the remaining 24 families have still lived there.

Mr Le The Nhan, Secretary of the Hoa Minh Ward Party Committee, said his agency would join forces with relevant agencies to accelerate the site clearance progress, with focus on urging the remaining affected families to move out of the site. Compulsory acquisition of land will be undertaken by the ward authorities in accordance with the city’s regulations if these displaced families refuse to move out of the site.
