A seminar on developing a proper waste management system and creating a strategic plan for waste management is taking place in Da Nang from 25 - 27 November.

Co-organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Alberta CoLab, the event sees the participation of some experts and managers from Da Nang, and such foreign countries as the Maldives, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Alberta (Canada).

During the event, the participants will assess the effectiveness of waste management in the city, and they also share their international experience in waste management. Then, they will together discuss and give their solutions to solid waste management in the city.

In his remarks at the event, Mr Dinh Quang Cuong, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, said solid waste management is a challenge for Da Nang due to ineffectiveness of the collecting, treating, and disposing of solid waste. This has adversely affected the aesthetics of the urban landscape and the environment.

He also said that Da Nang is welcoming domestic and foreign investors to pour money into tackling its waste management challenges.
