Despite erratic weather conditions, farmers are making great effort to ensure that their flower crops will reach full bloom exactly during the forthcoming festival.

According to the Hoa Vang District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Office, on a total area of 22ha, local farmers are growing about 600,000 pots of chrysanthemum, marigolds, dahlias, rose, carnations, gerberas and daisies, plus nearly 250,000 those of sunflowers and Mokara orchids.

Many flower growers have planted different kinds of flowers and ornamental plants in order to satisfy requirements and tastes of consumers.

At the Van Duong Flowers and Ornamental Plants Cooperative in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Lien Commune, thousands of pots of petunias are probably going to be transported to other localities nationwide. Meanwhile, hanging flower pots are having their buds cut off in order to prevent them from producing blooms before Tet.

Apart from such traditional kinds of flowers as chrysanthemum, lilies and dahlias, some of the Cooperative’s members are growing thousands of pots of ornament guava trees for the forthcoming Tet holiday. A pot of ornament guava trees will be offered at between 300,000 VND and over one million VND.

Thousands of lilies and gerberas are being planted at the Hoa Vang District Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative in Hoa Ninh Commune.

“In spite of ongoing unfavourable weather conditions, flower growers in the Cooperative are now busy taking care of their products in order to offer the best to their customers in the upcoming holiday”, Director of the Cooperative Nguyen Thang said.

Flower growers at the Duong Son Cooperative and some flower gardens in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Chau Commune have spent a lot of money and time on planting about 10,000 pots of daisies, 10,000 pots of crystal daisies, 2,500 pots of periwinkles, 2,000 pots of roses, and 10,500 stems of Mokara orchids.

Some flower growers are predicting that there would be a 10%-15% rise in the prices of Tet flowers due to a hike in the prices of labours, flower varieties, and fertilisers.
