Free haircuts for those in need
In recent weeks, a group of young barbers from Da Nang’s Clip Barber Shop have actively got involved in giving free haircuts to those in need on pavements along Nguyen Tri Phuong Street in Thanh Khe District.

Free haircuts are available at the ‘pavement’ barbershop from Mondays to Thursdays between 8.30am and 11.00am daily.
This idea was developed by Mr Tran Truong Khanh, 33, who is the owner of the district-based Clip Barber Shop.

Mr Khanh said, between July and September, he and his staff members volunteered to provide free haircuts for people living in apartment buildings in Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward.
“Since early October, we have donated our time to offer free haircuts to anyone on Nguyen Tri Phuong Street. The majority of our customers are 'xe om' (motorbike taxi) drivers, lottery ticket sellers, delivery employees, pupils and students”, he added.

“There's a real need for everybody,” said Mr Nguyen Van Thuong, a staff member of the Clip Barber Shop. He added “By offering free haircuts to those in need, it helps these people save a little money to pay for their meals and tuition fees, or feel more confident when applying to a job”.

Also being the shop’s staff member, 19-year-old Hua Cong Khoa remarked the charity act has benefited free haircut receivers and helped him improve his hair cutting skills.
Thanks to the shop offering free haircuts, more and more of people feel the benefits of getting a fresh new trim. |
Huynh Ngoc Truong, 20, a Grab Bike driver, said he drove with Grab in his free time during his studying and staying period in Da Nang. He noted he could save small amounts of money for his tuition and living expenses by receiving free haircuts from these kind-hearted barbers.
By giving free haircuts, young hair stylists help some poor labourers across the city save small amounts of money. |
“Despite free haircuts, the shop’s hair stylists always ask me what hairstyles I like and cut my hair very careful and meticulously. After finishing haircuts, they invite me to come back to their outdoor shop next time. Therefore, I will come back and recommend the shop to my friends”, 63-year-old Le Van Chau, a ‘xe om’ driver, said.
