Over recent years, many organisations and individuals across Da Nang have become actively involved in protecting nature and environment in their own ways.

So far this year, univerisity students acrosss the city have conducted lots of scientific research into environmental protection.

Specially mentioned is a multi-purpose garbage collection machine created by a group of talented students from the Da Nang-based University of Science and Technology. The product is able to collect trash left along beaches and underwater.

Another typical example is Tran Phuoc Bao Thu, a student from the Architecture Faculty of the University of Science and Technology. She won the second prize of the ‘Green Architecture for Vietnamese Student 2019’ contest in September for her project on building a centre for caring for pets and providing relief for wildlife on the western side of the Ba Na Hills.

Other young people have got actively involved in promoting a green lifestyle by saying no to disposable plastic products.

Students from the University of Economics has recently implemented the ‘Flight 71’ project under which students swap their plastic bottles for glass ones in order to minimise the discharge of an amount of plastic waste into the environment.

Meanwhile, Dong A University students have organised talks to encourage the public to use environmentally friendly products instead of single-use ones.

Also, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Anh, a student from the General Nursing Faculty of the Duy Tan University, is spreading the message about stopping the use of plastic straws by her own ways.

Over the past year, she has usually brought a stainless straw and a glass bottle with her to drink when visiting coffee shops or eateries.

Anh is also getting into the habit of using a bamboo toothbrush instead of disposable plastic one in a bid to reduce the use of plastic products, and keep plastic out of the landfill.

Over the last year, the city-based An Dien General Trading Company has spent nearly 600 million VND on carrying out environmental protection activities citywide.

In details, the company has donated 10,000 glass bottles to organisations and individuals in the city, and 40 plastic trash bins to the municipal Women’s Union.

Chairwoman of the city’s Women’s Union, Ms Tang Hoang Hon Tham, said members of the union and its chapters have planted more than 6,000 trees along streets, martyrs' cemeteries and historical relic sites in the city. Also, they have taken advantage of 133 vacant land lots to grow a variety of vegetables, and build 22 organic vegetable gardens and 2 herbal medicine gardens.

In recent months, members of the War Veterans' Association of Hoa Chau Commune in Hoa Vang District have together collected about 30 tonnes of trash, planted 5,000 acacia auriculiformis and 650 Hopea odorata trees along major roads.
