More effective measures for pollution control and environmental protection
Next year, Da Nang will continue taking environmental pollution mitigation measures with a focus on promoting the implementation of coastal wastewater treatment projects, constructing waste transfer stations, and developing collection, transportation and treatment services of waste.
Wastewater collection facilities in My Khe and My An areas are expected to be completed in March and April 2020 respectively |
Early this year, work started on the construction of wastewater collection systems in the An Hai Bac, An Hai Dong and Phuoc My wards in Son Tra District and My An Ward in Ngu Hanh Son District, which together stretch a total of area of 363ha.
These projects cost 678 billion VND in total, belonging to the ongoing Da Nang Sustainable Development Project, which is operated by the Management Board for the city's Priority Infrastructure Investment Projects. To date, more than 50% of the construction work has been completed.
Once completed, the above facilities will connect with the Ngu Hanh Son District dedicated wastewater treatment plant which is also expected to be upgraded at a cost of 275.9 billion VND to meet the demand of wastewater treatment at a daily capacity of 30,000m3. The upgrade work is scheduled to be completed by late next month.
Preparations are on right track to start the deployment of the water environment improvement project to the east of Son Tra District at a cost of 1,447 billion VND right after the upcoming Tet.
Besides, next year will see the installation of sewage collection pipelines along coastal Nguyen Tat Thanh Street which stretches through the districts of Hai Chau and Thanh Khe and Lien Chieu at a cost of 444.7 billion VND.
The municipal government has already approved the building of garbage transfer stations fully equipped with modern treatment technologies and transporting vehicles in the coming time so as to enhance the capacity of garbage collection, and reduce the amount of time trash to be left on streets.
It is expected that 4 or 5 garbage transfer stations with a total capacity of 200 - 500 tonnes of waste will be built in the future at a total cost of over 200 billion VND.
Next year, garbage transfer stations will be built in Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward and on Hai Chau district’s Le Thanh Nghi Street.
It is hoped that the timely construction of modern transfer stations and the enhancement of the mechanisation of garbage collection would alleviate the waste load at the existing on-street dump sites, hereby helping Da Nang still be on track of becoming an environmentally friendly city in the near future, and safeguarding a safe and healthy tourism environment.
According to the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, in addition to the above-mentioned projects next year will see the construction of the 2nd stage of the Khanh Son landfill-located leachate treatment plant with a designed daily capacity of 1,050m3, a sewer pipeline running from the Khanh Son Landfill to Hoa My Canal, a solid waste treatment plant with a daily capacity of 650 tonnes developed by the Viet Nam Environment JSC, and the 2nd stage of the Phu Loc waste water treatment plant with a daily capacity of 65,000m3.
Besides, heed will also be paid to monitoring the environmental pollution at such sites as the Tho Quang fishing wharf and the Da Nang Seafood Service Industrial Zone.
