Seriously injured fisherman safely brought back to mainland for treatment

Rescue ship SAR 412 from the Da Nang-based Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre No 2 brought a seriously injured crew member on board fishing boat QNg 94848 TS from Quang Ngai Province safely back to the mainland for treatment on Saturday.

At around 3:35pm on Friday, crew member Nguyen Van Son lost consciousness after a serious head trauma caused by an unexpected fall from a high place, whilst his fishing boat was operating in the Hoang Sa fishing ground, about 18 nautical miles from the Da Bac Island.

After receiving the SOS message, the Viet Nam Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Viet Nam MRCC) immediately helped the boat’s crew members to contact doctors from the Da Nang Emergency Centre 115 to ask for first aid instructions. According to the centre’s medical workers, the victim was believed suffering serious traumatic brain and cervical spine injuries.

At 2:00 am on Saturday, the SAR 412 reached the rescue of fishing boat, and the injured fisherman recovered from critical condition after having received first aid. The victim was then transferred to the rescue ship for being brought back to the mainland for further care.

At 9:48 am on the same day, the rescue ship arrived on Da Nang’s mainland, and the victim was rushed into hospital for further treatment.
