A workshop was held in Da Nang on Monday to review the implementation of the solid waste management project in the city over the past 3 years.

The project was funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Yokohama Environmental Planning Bureau, and the Yokohama Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).

During the event, leaders of the Yokohama Environmental Planning Bureau highly appreciated the remarkable results Da Nang has achieved after only 3 years of implementing the project in Thach Thang and Thuan Phuoc wards in Hai Chau District, and Thanh Khe Tay and Hoa Khe wards in Thanh Khe District.

A representative from the Da Nang Department of Natural Resource and the Environment said the municipal authorities have already issued a plan to sort domestic solid waste at source in the city by 2025.

Accordingly, the focus has been on widely publicising the waste classification at source amongst local families, and encouraging more residents to classify trash at source in appropriate manner.

In reply, the Japanese visitors pledged to continue assisting the city to effectively implement the solid waste management project in the city by 2030 with a vision towards 2045. Specially, another environmental protection-related project will be carried out in the city in mid-2020.
