Efforts placed on preparing for potential outbreak of nCoV

Although no cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection have so far this year been reported in Da Nang, the authorities, departments, agencies and organisations across the city are making great efforts to prepare for a potiential outbreak of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) pneumonia.

On Sunday morning, more than 1,000 residents in Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward got actively involved in cleaning up their residential areas in a bid to prevent the spread of 2019-nCoV .

Mr Cao Dinh Hai, Chairman of the Nai Hien Dong Ward People’s Committee, said his unit displayed CoV-related official information from the Ministry of Health website on the ward authorities' website and their fanpage to help local residents know about the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak

He added disinfectant chemicals have been sprayed at such crowded areas as schools, medical stations and the headquarters of the Nai Hien Dong Ward People’s Committee.

“Also, the ward authorities have asked pharmacies in the locality to sell medical materials at reasonable prices to share difficulties with local residents in the face of the coronavirus threat” Chairman Hai remarked.

In a similar vein, more than 3,300 leaflets about 2019-nCoV have been distributed directly to families in Hai Chau District’s Hoa Thuan Dong Ward.

“The leaflets provide local residents with basic information about 2019-nCoV, what are coronavirus-caused symptoms, and how is it transmitted from one person to another”, Mrs Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairwoman of the Hoa Thuan Dong Ward People’s Committee added.

Dr Ton That Thanh, the Director of the Da Nang Centre of Preventive Medicine, remarked hundreds of litres of Chloramine B have been sprayed at 171 schools citywide.

According to Ms Ho Tam, Deputy Head of the Communications - Health Education Department of the municipal Centre of Preventive Medicine, more than 9,000 panels and posters about 2019-nCoV are urgently printed to place at hospitals, medical stations and schools in the city.

Reportages, documentary films, magazines and thematic articles about Wuhan coronavirus have been produced to reach large audiences through the mass media and the website of the city’s health department.

Recently, a municipal-level steering committee for 2019-nCoV infection prevention and control has been established in the city.

Also, a group of inspectors, led by municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh, will be responsible for increasing their monitoring on the coronavirus outbreak in the city.
