The two machines have been set up by the municipal Young Entrepreneurs' Association, the municipal Youth Federation, and the Hai Chau District authorities to dispense free rice to support those affected by the coronavirus pandemic citywide.
The fundraising appeal made by the newspaper has attracted widespread support among local residents. Therefore, the Da Nang Newspaper has received generous donations from individuals and organisations aross the city.
The Viet Nhat Production Technology Development and the Phuc Dai Nam Construction and Service companies have together donated one tonne of rice.
Cao Nguyen Anh Khoa, a 6th grader of the city-based FPT Junior High School, used one million VND of his savings to donate to the funds to help those in need during the coronavirus crisis.
Besides, the newspaper has received 2.4 million VND from Nguyen Du Primary School pupils in Hai Chau District, 10 million VND from the city branch of the Bao Viet Insurance Company, and 2.4 million VND from the Toan Phat Nam Viet Company.
As of 20 April, the Da Nang Newspaper has received rice and cash donations that are equivalent to 5 tonnes of rice from its employees and readers. Of this, 1.5 tonnes of rice were contributed by the newspaper’s staff.
Da Nang Newspaper Editor-in-chief Nguyen Duc Nam remarked in addition to publicising the 'Compassion Rice' charity programme, we always welcome donations and promise to use them to support the operation of rice dispensers for those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
