Mr Nguyen Dang Huy, Director of the Waste Management and Treatment Factory, said that around 1,000 tonnes of every day solid waste are collected from across the city, and buried at the landfill.

Director Huy aslo said that, 3 months ago, staff of his factory removed canvas sheets out of a 2.4ha dumping area at the landfill for the burial of waste generated from daily-life activities of local residents. He added this dumping area will be covered with canvas sheets in late June for the removal of unpleasant odours. After that, other dump sites in the Khanh Son Landfill will have their covers with canvas sheets removed for burying daily household refuse.

Director Huy revealed that relevant local agencies are planning to upgrade the Khanh Son landfill into an ecological solid waste treatment complex in the coming time. The intention is to help the city deal with overloaded dumps and  pollution in this landfill site.

However, he noted that main obstacles to the implementation of this project are site clearance and compensation work.

Therefore, Mr Nguyen Tuan Son, the Director of the municipal Management Board of Da Nang Infrastructure Construction and Urban Development Projects, the project’s manager, urged the Lien Chieu authorities to accelerate the site clearance progress in a prompt manner so that the project can be carried out soon.
