Flight bringing home Vietnamese citizens stranded in Malaysia lands in the city

A special Vietnam Airlines-arranged flight bringing home over 270 Vietnamese citizens who have been stranded in Malaysia due to coronavirus touched down in Da Nang International Airport at 8.20pm on Sunday.

Vietnamese returnees included children aged under 18, the elderly and sick people, travellers, university and college students who face housing insecurity after coronavirus-related school closures, and guest workers who have their visas expired and labour contracts terminated.

The flight was part of the Vietnamese government’s efforts and the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to help foreign diplomatic agencies in the country carry out their citizen protection duties and support the international community in the fight against Covid-19.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia has worked with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to get Vietnamese nationals back.    

All the passengers and crew members had their health checked, and were placed into a 2 -week quarantine in the Centre for Training National Defense and Security Knowledge and the Dong Nghe Training Centre after arrival in Da Nang under the Vietnamese Ministry of Health’s rules.        

Also, the aircraft, the entire passenger cabin, cockpit and cargo storage area were disinfected after landing.
