Localities in the mid-central region from Quang Binh and Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, are sweltering in a wave of intense heat with temperatures soaring as high as 39 degrees Celsius in an ‘unprecedented’ May heatwave.
Residents in the mid-central region are basking in temperatures ranging between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius. Some parts of the mid-central region are seeing highs of 39 degree Celsius. The blast of heat is peaking from 11.30am until 2.30pm. Meanwhile, the lowest humidity is reported as between 50% and 60%.
Forecasters say that the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region will push up temperatures starting this weekend, and hitting a peak next mid-week.
A warning about the risk of fires spreading in the hot weather has been issued by the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting as the hot weather is set to continue into next week.
Currently, many casual workers in Da Nang are working outdoors in the heat.
