A total of 2,520 police officers across Da Nang will be offered language lessons during the 2020 - 2030 period so they can speak in English, Chinese and South Korean.

The intention is to improve the foreign language proficiency of local police officers because the city has seen a significant increase in the number of foreign violators over recent years.

The programme is expected to cost around 14 billion VND (approximately 600,000 USD) which is funded by the city budget.

In these foreign language classes are included traffic, immigration, district-level and investigative police officers, plus administrative management officials. In particular, 1,440 officers will take foreign language classes for beginners during the 2020 - 2024 period, whilst 1,080 others will attend higher-level classes over the 2025-2030 period.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of foreign traffic offenders in Da Nang. Also, criminal activities are becoming increasingly complex and sophisticated.

In 2019, administrative fines totalling more than 7.2 billion VND were imposed on 679 foreigners for violating the national laws, 379 of whom had their visas cancelled and they were forced to leave the city, whilst 4 others were deported.

The majority of foreign offenders were involved in illegally working, online gambling rings, illegal drug use, property robbery, itinerant begging, and illegal missionary activities.
