A taxi driver from Da Nang-based Mai Linh Taxi Company gained an unexpected extra passenger when a woman gave birth in the back of his cab.

When Nguyen Anh T. went into labour on Wednesday, her husband called a taxi to take them to hospital.

Driver Vo Thanh Phu picked them up at their home in Thanh Khe District’s An Khe Ward to the Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital at around 5am on Wednesday, but by the time they got there the baby was on its way.

Thanh stopped his cab and helped the woman deliver a baby girl on the back seat of his cab. Then, Thanh helped the mother and her newborn baby keep warm during the journey to the Thanh Khe District Medical Centre for medical care. The family said the girl was doing well.

Previously, drivers who work for the Mai Linh Taxi Company based in Da Nang had helped deliver two babies in back of their cabs after mums-to-be gave birth en route to hospital.
