The number of accidents rose by 18 cases compared to the same period last year, while the figures for deaths and injuries each declined by two.
The causes of the accidents included drink driving, people using the wrong lanes and speeding.
Congestion was witnessed in gateways to major cities, especially Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, on the first and last days of the holiday, as well as roads leading to tourist destinations.
Relevant agencies plan to bolster inspections and fines for traffic violations as economic activities gradually return to normal and students return to school, as well as the start of the summer vacation and rainy season.
