Due to the effects of the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region, a scorching heatwave continues to grip localities in the mid-central region from Quang Binh and Quang Ngai, including Da Nang.

Forecasters have warned the heatwave blanketing the mid-central localities is set to continue into the coming week with the average temperature in the daytime of between 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, and even over 38 degree Celsius in some parts of the mid-central region.

Meanwhile, the lowest humidity is reported as between 45% and 55%.

During the hot days, whirlwinds, lighting and hail are possible in mid-central regional localities in the late afternoon.

This heat wave will bring life-threatening conditions to many people working outdoors. Anyone outdoors during the hottest times of the day will need to drink plenty of fluids, and take breaks from strenuous activities to lower the risk for heat-related illnesses.

Children and the elderly will be at the highest risk for heatstroke or heat exhaustion, and should stay in air-conditioned locations when possible.

A warning about the risk of forest fires at alarming level 5 - the highest level in the city has been issued by the Da Nang Forest Protection Department, and wildfires will be possible to become more widespread and destructive from 16 - 21 May, as the prolonged heatwave continues to grip the city in coming week.

Therefore, the Department has issued a ban on burning fires in forests in the city during the current dry season. Forest rangers are required to strictly comply with the municipal regulations about forest fire prevention and firefighting.
