After one year of implementation, the ‘Dia Com Tren Tuong’ (Dishes of Rice on the Wall) programme has raised 825 million VND in total from generous doctors, nurses and philanthropists across Da Nang.

A total of 17,000 free meals, worth between 15,000 VND and 25,000 VND each, have been provided for poor patients and their caregivers at the Da Nang General Hospital, the Hoa Vang Hospital and the city’s Hospital for Lung Diseases.

The Dia Com Tren Tuong’ charity programme aims to provide free meals to poor patients in a bid to help them leverage their strengths to fight against their diseases and support their caregivers.

The name of the programme originates from a ‘Coffee on the Wall’ story about a coffee shop in Venice, Italy, in which two people order two cups of coffee. The two customers drink only one coffee, and leave a piece of paper on the wall that says this is a free cup of coffee for anyone who cannot afford it.

In Viet Nam, the meaningful programme has been implementing successfully in Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Lak Province and Da Nang after thousands of free meals have been given to patients and their caregivers.
