A ceremony, organised by the Viet Nam Red Cross (VNRC), took place in Da Nang on Tuesday morning to wrap up a project on enhancing the capacity of disaster response and first aid.

Funded by the Red Cross Society of China, the 1.5 million Yuan (equivalent to 5 billion VND) project was carried out in 6 communes and wards in Da Nang, Hai Phong City and Thanh Hoa Province from October 2019 to June 2020.

The project aimed to raise public awareness and enhance essential skills in disaster preparedness and response, and strengthen disaster mitigation and first aid forces so as to relieve any unexpected risks threatening the community, especially vulnerable areas.

The project proved its practical effectiveness on increasing disaster preparedness and resilience, and first aid capacity as well. In particular, it was highly praised for having provided a large amount of necessary equipment to fully meet the demand for disaster tackling and emergency relief activities in the aforementioned Vietnamese wards and communes.

In Da Nang alone, the project was carried out effectively in the wards of Hoa Hiep Bac and Hoa Hiep Nam in Lien Chieu District, with the involvement of nearly 10,000 families. It is notable that Red Cross first aid facilities have been put into operation at 61 Nguyen Van Cu in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward and 813 Nguyen Luong Bang in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward.
