22 individuals and groups were honoured with Certificates of Merit from the National Committee of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society, whist the remaining 130 received Certificates of Merit from the Da Nang People's Committee, in recognition of their dedicated support to the Red Cross blood donation campaigns.

During the honouring ceremony, municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh commended efforts of dedicated donors and thanked them for their lifesaving contribution. Vice Chairman Chinh also acknowledged the generosity of the city's blood donors and their willingness to be available to help save lives of many patients in hospitals.

Mr Chinh also took the opportunity to encourage more people to donate blood in order to ensure sufficient blood supplies for emergency cases and medical treatment in the city.

He said thousands of local residents participated in the city's voluntary blood donation campaigns every year. In 2019 alone, a sum of 37,961 units of blood were collected from 43,275 donors in 162 blood donation events.

Also at the honouring ceremony, the '2020 Red Journey' blood donation campaign was launched in the city.

In response to this year's campaign, a blood donation campaign entitled 'Connecting Vietnamese bloodstream' is being held at the Da Nang University of Economic from 8 June - 8 August. The event targets to collect about 6,000 units of blood.
