Temperatures in Da Nang to rocket to close to 42 degrees Celsius
A scorching heatwave is expected to grip some parts of the mid-central region from Quang Binh and Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, this week with thermometers soaring towards 41-42 degree Celsius, peaking from midweek, according to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
Regional weather forecasters explained that the hot spell is resulted from the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region.
The hot weather is expected to continue to grip these central localities until 24 June as the region's heatwave shows no signs of ending.
In Da Nang, temperatures ramp up to highs of between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius in the daytime, and some parts of the city can expect highs of 41-42 degree Celsius.
It is expected that, the ultraviolet (UV) radiation index in the city will range at 8-9 levels, a dangerous level that can cause eye damage, overheating and dehydration to those who are exposed to direct sunlight during the hot weather. Therefore, local residents are advised to wear protective clothing and sunscreen when outside.
As the hot spell will be exacerbated by low humidity, the Da Nang authorities also warned of fire and explosion hazards, and a high risk of forest fire.
