The amount of sunlight expected to hit Da Nang today means people are urged to take precautions.

The Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning to people in Da Nang today due to the high levels of ultraviolet radiation hitting the city.

Da Nang is forecast to have a UV index ranging between 7 and 9 on Monday, due to the heatwave that has hit the mid-central region.

A small amount of UV radiation is essential in the production of vitamin D, however too much exposure to the sun can have serious effects on your skin and eyes.

As a result, the weather expects are urging people to avoid spending too long in the sun between 11am and 3pm today, and say spending time in the shade and using a high factor sun cream with good UVA protection to protect yourself.

Localities in the mid-central region from Quang Binh and Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, are reeling under intense heatwave conditions with the highest temperatures ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, even over 38 degree Celsius in some parts of the region.

For most places, a lot of sunshine, some cloud will bubble up through the day but temperatures will be rising steadily through the day.

Forecasters explain that the hot spell is resulted from the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region.

However, tornadoes, lightning, and thunderstorms will be possible in vulnerable areas in the region’s mountainous areas in the late afternoon and evening due to the effects of extreme hot spells.

The current hot spell is likely to continue heating up the central regional localities in the next few days.
