During the 2015 -2020 period, the Da Nang Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection and its chapters across the city has raised a total of nearly 169 billion VND from generous donors from both home and abroad for their charitable activities.

The money raised has gone to build new houses and repair downgraded ones for 116 poor residents, grant scholarships to 8,697 school pupils and university students from poor families, and provide free medical checkups and medicine to 31,565 poor people.

Also, the Association has provided a means of livelihood for poor residents, lifting around 100 families out of poverty, as well as widely publicised children's rights amongst children, and their parents and teachers.

These figures were released by the Association in Wednesday’s meeting to review its performance over the past 5 years, and identify its new tasks for the next 5 years.

In his remarks at the meeting, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh commended the Association staff for supporting the city’s efforts to fulfil its target of ensuring social welfare and poverty reduction programmes.

Mr Chinh also urged the Association to continue appealing for generous domestic and foreign donors to assist local poor children and needy people in the time to come.

He also highlighted the importance of promoting the efficiency of the implementation of local humanitarian programmes, and raising more funds for the deployment of projects for very poor mothers and children.

Also at the review meeting, 24 organisations and individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit from the municipal Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection in recognition of their dedicated support to the Association over the past 5 years. Besides, 72 other people were honoured for their active involvement in the Association-organised humanitarian activities.
