21 teams from 21 provinces and cities across Viet Nam, including Da Nang, are participating in the final round of a contest for those involved in preparing for, and responding to natural disasters which opened in Da Nang on Thursday.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony for the final round of the contest, Deputy Director General of the Viet Nam Department Management Authority Nguyen Truong Son said the contest, the first of its kind in Viet Nam, was inspired by the Law on amendments and supplementations to a number of articles of the Law on Natural Disaster Mitigation and Control that has been recently adopted by the National Assembly.

The contest is open to those involved in preparing for, and responding to natural disasters around Viet Nam. It aims to enhance public awareness on disaster management and climate change adaptation.

The contest, a form of a television game show, was organised by the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Mitigation and Control and the Viet Nam Television under the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

The contest features 7 knockout, 3 semi-final and 1 final games, and these events will be broadcast on Viet Nam’s national television channels.
